Owen Rust is a Midland High School alum. At MHS, he was a member of debate team and took both AP Economics and AP Government. After graduation, he attended the University of Wyoming, where he received bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science. He stayed on in Laramie for two more years as a teaching assistant and earned a Master's of Public Administration (MPA) degree. Following that, he returned to Texas and earned a post-baccalaureate teacher certification at Texas Tech University. While living in Lubbock, Owen was a substitute teacher for grades 6-12 and did his student-teaching at Lubbock Monterey.
Today, Owen is the social studies department chair and has become certified to teach dual-credit Government, Sociology, and Economics through Midland College. Since 2018, he has also been an adjunct instructor at MC, teaching Texas Government and Macroeconomics both online and in evening classes. Owen is working on a Master's in Finance and Economics at West Texas A&M and will be 2/3 completed by December 2019. He is married, has one son, and they enjoy life with their French bulldog, Ellie. Owen is a grower of agaves, watcher of television, and loves snow.
